Most of us have things we’re not proud of—decisions we’d undo or words we’d take back. But few regrets are as visible—or as deeply felt—as those of Ethan “ModBoy” Bramble, an Australian body-mod enthusiast who covered himself in over 200 tattoos.
Ethan’s journey began at age eleven with stretched earlobes, followed by more extreme choices: a split tongue, a removed belly button, and even eyeball tattoos. He eventually spent around $60,000 AUD (≈ $39,000 USD) transforming himself into a living canvas.
However, since becoming a father, he’s begun to reassess his priorities. In an interview with LadBibleTV’s No Filter, he admitted: “I guess you could say I regret some tattoos. Not just regret, I think there’s a difference between regret and wanting to be perceived differently”.
He’s especially concerned about how people might judge him in everyday situations, like taking his young daughter to school. “The face is a big thing… I wish that I had not gone as hectic as I did on my face,” he shared, expressing worries that she’d face stigma too.
To change how he looks—and feels—Ethan has been undergoing laser tattoo removal for about a year, treating his face in sections over six or seven sessions. He hopes the process will continue over the next two years, gradually “clearing the canvas”.
He noted the mental toll of having a face full of tattoos: “I started getting it done because of the anxiety… I want to think that a lot of the anxiety was from just having a face full of tattoos. I’m happy with the way that I look, but I’m also happy with the mentality that… my face tattoos are going to become less and less”.
What do you think of Ethan’s journey—from bold self-expression to thoughtful change for his child? It’s fascinating to see how personal choices evolve.
