Carlos grew up diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, and the idea of singing on such a massive stage first filled him with anxiety. Yet his love for music and unbreakable determination shone through during his rendition of John Mayer’s “Gravity.” Far from just hitting every note perfectly, his performance was deeply emotional—so much so that many viewers were moved to tears.

Diagnosed around age 12, Carlos faced intense misunderstanding—so much that he had to leave high school due to his symptoms and even endured moments when people saw him as a burden. But he refused to let his condition define him. Instead of letting it limit his life, he found solace in music: “it was the only thing that didn’t trigger my tics,” he’s said.
