Before the operation, the little boy hugged his dog tightly, but suddenly the dog jumped from the bed and attacked one of the doctors. Everything froze, and a terrible silence filled the small hospital room—everyone immediately recognized the reason for the dog’s strange behavior.
The small, glass room was silent.
The five-year-old boy lay on a snow-white sheet, his eyes large and tired, like little lights exhausted after a long time. The doctors had told his parents that this operation was his last chance.
The nurses were preparing him for anesthesia when the boy whispered softly, his lips trembling:
– Can… Archie come to me?
“Who’s Archie, darling?” asked one of the nurses in surprise, her face gently illuminated by the light.
–My dog… I missed him so much… Please… – his lips trembled.
“You know, little darling, animals aren’t allowed in the hospital. You’re already very weak, you understand?” the nurse tried to explain, knowing full well that words couldn’t do justice to his pain.
The boy turned away, tears glistening in the corners of his eyes.
– But… maybe I’ll never see him again.
These words pierced the nurse’s heart deeply.
She exchanged a glance with her colleagues and unexpectedly agreed with herself:
– Okay, but only for a moment.
An hour later, Archie’s parents brought him in.
As soon as the dog saw his little owner, he ran to the bed, jumped up and hugged the boy with all his heart.
For the first time in weeks, the boy smiled and hugged the dog tightly.
The doctors and nurses watched the scene with tears in their eyes. The friendship between human and dog was stronger than pain and fear.
But suddenly Archie became suspicious. His fur stood on end, he jumped off the bed, and ran to the corner of the room.
The surgeon who was to perform the operation was standing there. The dog barked angrily, as if it wanted to bite the doctor.
“Remove this animal!” shouted the surgeon, stepping back.
Colleagues rushed to calm the dog, but one doctor looked at the surgeon strangely and suddenly understood the reason for Archie’s strange behavior.
The doctor smelled it… the sharp, pungent odor of alcohol.
“Oh my God…” whispered the anesthesiologist, looking at the surgeon. “Are you drunk?!”
A deathly silence fell over the room. The parents turned pale, the nurses looked at each other in horror. Archie continued to growl, as if protecting his little owner.
A few minutes later, everything became clear: the surgeon had indeed shown up to work drunk.
He was immediately suspended and his license revoked.
The operation was rescheduled.
The boy was referred to another doctor, and a few days later the operation was successful.
Later everyone said: Archie was not just a loyal friend – he became a guardian angel.
Without him, the outcome could have been tragic.
