Nine-year-old magician Shoji Naruishi from New York City recently left the judges and audience of America’s Got Talent completely spellbound with his jaw-dropping sleight of hand. Despite his young age, the charismatic boy demonstrated a level of confidence and technical skill that rivaled seasoned professionals. When asked what he would do with the $1 million grand prize, Shoji charmingly revealed his down-to-earth dreams: buying some tacos and a pet dog.
For his audition, Shoji stepped down from the main stage to perform close-up magic right in front of the judges’ desk. He kicked off his routine with an American quarter, effortlessly making the coin vanish into thin air, reducing it “into atoms,” before cleanly pulling it back into reality. His fluid movements and smooth execution instantly captivated the room.
The highlight of the performance involved a deck of cards created by one of his favorite magicians and former AGT champion, Shin Lim. Shoji invited judge Howie Mandel to participate in a mind-bending transposition trick. Howie chose the Queen of Hearts and held it securely between his hands. Through a simple blow, Shoji managed to instantly swap Howie’s card with his own Queen of Spades. The execution was so flawless that it left the judges shouting in disbelief.
The panel was unanimous in their praise. Howie Mandel noted that Shoji is already as good as magicians twice or three times his age, predicting he would give Shin Lim a run for his money. Simon Cowell compared him to Harry Potter, praising his charming personality and genuine belief in magic. Ultimately, Shoji earned a well-deserved four “yeses” from the judges, proving that true talent knows no age limit.
