At just 22 years old, Sofia married a man nearly four decades older than her. Every night before going to bed, she took a strong sleeping pill and quickly fell into a deep sleep. For weeks, she had no idea what was happening around her after she closed her eyes.
Then one night, she secretly placed a camera in the bedroom.
What it recorded at 2:47 a.m. left her completely terrified.
At twenty-two, Sofia’s life looked very different from that of her friends. While they were dating, traveling, shopping, and making plans for their futures, Sofia was struggling with a much more serious problem: finding a way to rescue her family from overwhelming debt.
Her father had died, leaving behind several unpaid loans. Her mother was dealing with ongoing health problems and could barely work, while Sofia’s younger brother was preparing to start university.
There was barely enough money left for everyday necessities.
Then Sofia met Richard.
He was 61 years old, owned several construction companies, and lived alone in a large house. His first wife had died years earlier, and he had not been seriously involved with another woman for more than a decade.
Richard quickly became interested in Sofia.
He openly courted her and, after several months, asked her to marry him.
When people who knew them discovered the relationship, they immediately formed their own opinion.
“She only wants his money.”
Sofia knew exactly how the situation appeared from the outside.
And the painful truth was that their assumption was not entirely wrong.
Before agreeing to the marriage, Sofia asked Richard to speak with her privately.
“I need to be honest with you,” she told him. “I respect you, but I don’t love you. If we get married, I don’t want you to expect feelings from me that I simply don’t have.”
She expected him to become angry or offended.
Instead, Richard calmly replied:
“I understand.”
Sofia then told him something else.
For months, she had been struggling with severe anxiety and insomnia. She could barely sleep without medication, and her doctor had prescribed sleeping pills to help her rest. She intended to continue taking them after the wedding.
Richard did not object.
A week later, they were married.
In one sense, Sofia’s life changed almost immediately.
Richard paid off her family’s debts. Her younger brother received financial support for his education, and her mother no longer had to worry about losing the family home.
But the marriage itself was unusual.
Every night, around eleven o’clock, Sofia would take her medication, lie down on her side of the enormous bed, and fall asleep roughly twenty minutes later.
Richard never pressured her for intimacy. In fact, he treated her carefully and respectfully.
For almost three weeks, everything seemed normal.
Then Sofia began noticing strange things.
Sometimes she would wake with the unsettling feeling that someone had been moving around near the bed. On several occasions, she thought she could hear Richard speaking to her while she was asleep.
The next morning, she would ask him about it.
“Did you talk to me during the night?”
“You probably dreamed it,” he would answer.
But one morning, Sofia woke around four o’clock and immediately noticed something strange.
Her pillow was lying on the floor.
Her hair was damp with sweat.
And she could not remember anything that had happened during the night.
The following night was even more disturbing.
When Sofia woke the next morning, she felt as though she had barely slept. Her muscles were sore, her heart was racing, and the bedsheet beneath her was damp.
“What is happening to me?” she wondered.
Richard was not in the bedroom.
For the first time, Sofia became genuinely frightened.
All day, one question kept running through her mind:
What was happening to her during the hours when the sleeping pills left her completely unconscious?
That evening, she made a decision.
She bought a small camera and secretly placed it on a bookshelf facing the bed.
She told Richard nothing.
That night, she followed her usual routine. She took her pill, climbed into bed, and turned off the light.
The next morning, Sofia immediately grabbed her phone and opened the recording.
For the first two hours, nothing unusual happened.
Then she reached 2:47 a.m.
What she saw next left her frozen.
At exactly 2:47, Sofia suddenly sat upright in bed.
She paused the recording and zoomed in.
Her eyes were open.
A few seconds later, Richard entered the bedroom.
Sofia watched in disbelief.
He walked toward the bed, but he did not touch her.
Instead, he spoke calmly.
“Sofia, wake up. Look at me.”
She appeared not to hear him.
She simply stood up and began walking toward the bedroom door.
Richard immediately followed.
For nearly three minutes, the camera showed nothing unusual. Then the door opened again.
Richard came back into the room carrying Sofia in his arms.
She was completely soaked.
Her hair and clothes were dripping wet, and Richard was breathing heavily.
He carefully placed her on the bed, dried her face and hair with a towel, checked her pulse, and then sat beside her.
He remained there for almost the entire rest of the night.
Sofia watched the footage several times.
She could not understand what she was seeing.
When Richard finally returned, she placed the phone directly in front of him.
“Where did I go?”
Richard remained silent for a long moment.
Then he finally told her the truth.
During the first week of their marriage, Sofia had begun sleepwalking.
At first, it was relatively harmless. She would get out of bed and wander around the bedroom while still asleep.
Then the episodes became more serious.
She began walking into the hallway.
A few nights earlier, Richard had even found her near the staircase.
But what happened the previous night had been far more dangerous.
While still asleep, Sofia had walked downstairs, opened the door leading into the yard, and headed directly toward the swimming pool.
She stepped into the water without ever waking up.
That explained why her clothes and bedding had been wet in the morning.
Richard had managed to reach her in time and pull her out of the pool.
Sofia stared at him in disbelief.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Richard lowered his eyes.
“Because you were already afraid of me,” he explained. “If I had told you that I was watching over you every night, you might have assumed something terrible was happening. I didn’t want to make you more frightened. I wanted to take you to a doctor.”
That same day, Sofia contacted a medical professional.
After discussing what had been happening, she was told that the sleepwalking episodes could potentially be connected to her sleeping medication, particularly in combination with intense stress and anxiety.
Her treatment was changed, and the medication associated with the episodes was discontinued under medical supervision.
Over the following weeks, Sofia continued to be monitored, and eventually the frightening episodes stopped.
The hidden camera had revealed something Sofia never expected to see.
What she initially feared was a secret being kept from her turned out to be something very different: while she had been completely unaware of what she was doing, Richard had been following her, protecting her, and trying to keep her safe from the danger she unknowingly put herself in every night.
