During the wedding, the groom noticed that the bride had kept her veil over her face for hours. At first, he assumed she was simply shy.
But when they were finally alone, he gently lifted the veil — and froze in shock. 😳
Twenty-eight-year-old Rajiv had grown up in a family where old traditions were still strictly followed.
When his parents told him they had found a bride for him, he didn’t object. Her name was Ananya. She was 24, worked as a teacher, and lived with her parents in another city.
According to the traditions followed by both families, the couple could speak before the wedding, but Rajiv was not allowed to see his future wife’s face.
At first, it seemed strange to him. But their phone conversations gradually became an important part of his life. Almost every evening, they talked about work, family, and their plans for the future.
Rajiv became increasingly curious to see the woman whose voice had become so familiar to him, but he decided to wait until the wedding.
Finally, the long-awaited day arrived.
When Ananya entered the hall, her face was completely covered by a long pink veil. Rajiv smiled when he saw his future wife, but almost immediately noticed something unusual.
She seemed extremely nervous.
Her hands were trembling, and whenever a relative tried to adjust her veil, she quickly held the fabric close to her face.
Rajiv assumed she was simply anxious.
Throughout the ceremony, Ananya barely spoke. Several times, he quietly asked if everything was all right.
“Yes, everything is fine,” she answered each time.
But her voice told a different story.
After the ceremony, relatives continued congratulating the newlyweds, taking photographs, and bringing gifts. Ananya still refused to lift her veil.
It was only late that evening that the couple finally found themselves alone.
Rajiv sat beside his wife and smiled.
“I suppose I’m finally allowed to see you.”
He reached for her veil, but Ananya suddenly stopped his hand.
“Maybe not now?”
Rajiv looked at her in surprise.
“Why?”
“I’m just tired.”
He immediately sensed that something was wrong.
“Ananya, look at me.”
She remained silent.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
Rajiv gently moved her hand aside and slowly lifted the veil.
For the first time, he saw the face of the woman he had just married.
But instead of smiling, his expression changed to shock. 😨
Her left cheek was red and slightly swollen. There were clear marks on her skin, and a small cut could be seen near her lips.
“Who hit you?”
Ananya immediately turned away.
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Who?”
She said nothing.
Rajiv began going over the entire day in his mind. Relatives, friends, and women from both families had constantly been around the bride. Whoever had done this had to be someone she knew and trusted.
“Did this happen today?”
She nodded.
“Before the ceremony?”
Again, she nodded.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Ananya looked at him.
“Because I was told not to.”
Those words made Rajiv even more concerned.
He moved closer and asked her to tell him everything from the beginning.
After hesitating for a long time, Ananya finally revealed what had happened.
About twenty minutes before the ceremony, a woman had entered the room where she was getting ready.
She asked everyone else to leave, saying she wanted to speak to the bride privately.
At first, the woman spoke calmly.
She asked Ananya whether she was certain she wanted to marry Rajiv.
Then she said:
“You still have time to leave.”
Ananya thought it was some kind of strange test. She replied that she loved Rajiv and would not cancel the wedding.
The woman’s expression suddenly changed.
She told Ananya that she was not good enough for Rajiv, that the marriage would only bring problems to the family, and that the wedding should never have happened.
Ananya tried to leave the room.
But the woman grabbed her arm.
When Ananya demanded that she let go, the woman slapped her.
The blow was so sudden that Ananya almost lost her balance.
The woman then leaned closer and whispered:
“If you tell him about this, you won’t be the only one who suffers.”
Rajiv listened with clenched fists.
“Just tell me one thing. Who was this woman?”
Tears rolled down Ananya’s cheeks.
For several seconds, she couldn’t speak.
Then she quietly answered:
“Your mother.”
Rajiv froze.
But what he learned next was even more shocking.
His mother had opposed the marriage from the very beginning. Ananya’s family was much poorer than theirs, and she had hoped Rajiv would marry the daughter of a wealthy family friend.
Even on the day of the wedding, she had tried one last time to make Ananya walk away.
