The country music icon Alan Jackson recently shared his thoughts on why he decided to retire as he prepared for his farewell tour.
His wish to spend more time with his family is a major contributing element. Following a touching statement last week, Jackson welcomed a baby grandchild, comes this news.
Jackson announced his pregnancy in February of last year, and the much awaited Wesley Alan Smith, Jackson’s second grandchild, is now here.
Jackson’s daughter Mattie Jackson said, “My life was forever changed one week ago.”
She went on, “Wesley Alan Smith joined our small family on June 20th, the best birthday present I could have ever imagined.” Being a mother is the highest honor in life, having been selected by God. And there’s no greater happiness than witnessing your father already appreciate and guard you. Reluctantly, Ryman has also grown to like her new younger sibling.
“Baby boy, you have my prayers and all my heart,” she continued. You have a long life ahead of you if you’re anything like Connor’s grandfather and @officialalanjackson, emojis for prayers.
Jackson had shared his joy about the expanding family on X, now known as Twitter, in February.
He wrote, “Blessings overflowing in our growing family!” The arrival of our second grandson in June excites Denise and Me! We’re thrilled for Mattie and Connor Smith, the joyful parents, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our newest family member.
Jackson said earlier this month that he would be retiring following his next tour. The 65-year-old thought back on his long career and the life adjustments that had brought him to this moment.
In a video posted on X, Jackson stated, “I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world.” “I’m approaching my twilight years, having had a fantastic career, both of my daughters are grown, and I have one grandson and one on the way. I don’t tour as much as I did ten years ago, and I enjoy spending more time at home instead of being gone like I used to. However, I believe the time has come to consider quitting full-time.

“Last Call: One More for the Road” is the name of the tour, which will begin on August 2 and run for 10 dates until May 17, 2025.
Jackson said in 2021 that he suffers from Charcot-Marie-Tooth illness, a persistent neuropathy that impairs movement and balance. In the video, he talked about this and discussed how it affected his choice to retire.
“The majority of my followers are aware that I have a degenerative medical condition inherited from my father that impacts my arms, legs, and mobility, and it’s getting worse,” he remarked. “I just feel like I’m having a hard time, and it makes me more uncomfortable on stage. I just want to consider maybe quitting before I’m unable to do the job like I want to.”
