America’s Got Talent is a successful reality competition show that debuted in 2006. The show offers a diverse group of performers, including singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other creative individuals who demonstrate their abilities in front of a panel of judges and an audience. The event has gained popularity for its broad and eclectic cast of performers, who come from all walks of life and represent a vast range of ethnicities, backgrounds, and genres.
Almost everyone is aware that receiving a “Golden Buzzer” during the audition rounds is the pinnacle of success, as it propels the contender beyond the subsequent round (judge cuts) and into the quarterfinals. There are five of them, with one for each judge and the fifth for the host.
Finally, almost everyone is aware that Simon Cowell, one of the show’s creators, is one of its harshest critics. Receiving praise from him, or simply a gesture of favor, is a wonderful success.

All of this makes what happened when 16-year-old Christian Guardino of Patchogue, New York, took the stage and sang the Jackson Five’s “Who’s Loving You” so incredible. He actually startled the crowd and the judges with his great voice, and after he ended, Simon told him he “needed about ten seconds” to figure out what to say since he was so moved by Christian’s performance. A minute or two later, Howie handed him the Golden Buzzer.
However, this was hardly the pinnacle of a young Christian’s achievements. He told the judges that as a young kid, he was afflicted with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), a rare condition that caused him to lose his sight. Music became his ultimate escape, and when technical improvements enabled him to restore his sight, he remained deeply devoted to it.
